This course is for Responsible Persons working within the area of water safety who require refresher training.

In addition to the roles and responsibilities for maintaining safe water systems, this course will develop your ability to assess your organisation’s current level of compliance and exposure to risks and give you the knowledge and skills to take action to improve compliance and reduce risks.

Based around the core elements of compliance, the course uses an audit tool based on guidance from the HSE to examine in a practical and structured fashion the requirements to achieve compliance.

Who is the course for

You should be working in a position with responsibility for maintaining safe building water systems and have attended the Eastwood Park ‘Legionella responsible person’ or an equivalent course in the last three years.

The course builds upon previous training experience and updates you with recent changes in the field and current case studies. Therefore prior knowledge and training is essential.

How often should I complete this refresher training?

We suggest that refresher training for Responsible Persons (Water) is undertaken every 3 years.

Aims & objectives

To provide an understanding of the importance of managing water hygiene related risks, roles, responsibility and liabilities, and of the use of important techniques such as development of an adequate risk assessment, risk minimisation schemes, monitoring and audit in order to achieve compliance.

 

BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

– Describe Legionella, its requirements and how to control it.

– Explain how to discharge their roles and responsibilities and the required appointments.

– Describe the legal requirements including the duty to manage Legionella.

– Identify the elements of a suitable and sufficient risk assessment.

– Describe the concept of a suitable written scheme of control.

– Identify what makes a suitable and sufficient records and monitoring system.

Appropriate and regular refresher training is a requirement for all those with roles and responsibilities in respect of water distribution systems and associated equipment in healthcare buildings ensuring patient and staff safety in respect of the microbiological, chemical and physical risks associated with water systems.

ACoP L8 and HSG 274 states the Responsible Person (Water) should receive ‘regular refresher training’, this is generally accepted as being appropriate every two to three years.
