The course is designed to develop a working knowledge of medical gas pipeline systems based on the guidance given in HTM 02; ‘Medical Gas Pipeline Systems’ and other current guidance.

Who is the course for

This course is for those taking on the role of Authorised Person Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS) in a Hospice environment, with responsibility for the safe operation, installation and maintenance of medical gas pipeline systems.

The course is designed to cover small medical gas systems e.g. oxygen manifold with up to 30 outlets. Typically found in the hospice environment.

This course is not suitable for those who will be responsible for larger and more complex systems where medical air, vacuum and or theatres or critical care areas exit.

The course is for those with little or no prior knowledge of medical gas pipeline systems and includes a significant proportion of practical work.

Aims & objectives

The course is designed to develop a working knowledge of medical gas pipeline systems based on the guidance given in HTM 02; ‘Medical Gas Pipeline Systems’ and other current guidance.

 

BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

– Define and perform all engineering tests relevant to the commissioning and refurbishing of medical gas pipeline systems

– Manage a ‘Permit to Work’ system for medical gas pipeline systems by performing all duties of an Authorised Person as defined in HTM 02

– Describe and apply all relevant safety procedures when working on medical gas pipeline systems and identify potentially hazardous practices and situations

– Contribute to the writing/updating of a current policy

– Detail the operational parameters of medical gas systems and be able to set up medical gas systems to operate to the correct parameters

– Describe the operational checks required in HTM 02 for medical gas systems and carry out these checks as required
