This course that combines classroom and practical sessions. Classroom sessions explore the hazards, physiological effects, class & type, testing in medical locations in accordance with BS62353:2014, with the practical sessions allowing individual/group practice with a range of medical devices and electrical safety analysers in a safe environment.

Who the course is for?

This course is ideally suited for those of a technical/engineering background who are entering into or who have recently accepted a role within the medical/clinical engineering environment from different engineering disciplines, post graduates, and those on apprenticeship schemes. This course may also ideal as a refresher course on current electrical safety testing standards and techniques.

Course Aim

To provide the underpinning knowledge of current electrical safety, regulations, standards and best practice when applied during repeatable testing and test after repair of portable Medical Electrical (ME) equipment.

Course Objectives

· Identify the inherent hazards of ME equipment and physiological effects of electricity on the human body

· Explain the different leakage currents and the importance of the classification and type of ME equipment when testing

· Compare the different methods and sequence of tests applied during electrical safety testing

· Complete visual inspection and electrical safety testing in accordance with current regulations, standards and supporting manufacturers information on a selection of medical electrical equipment

Prerequisites for this course

This course involves performing electrical safety test in accordance to IEC 60601-1/IEC 62353 on various medical equipment commonly encountered in a medical environment.
