To enable Estates and Capital Projects staff to manage Capital schemes to time and budget within a formal structure that complies with Trust standing financial instructions (SFIs) and standing financial orders (SFOs).

To provide individuals with an overview of the Capital Programme process and in particular their role in delivering successful capital schemes.

Who is the course for

Estates Officers with operational roles, who may be required to manage backlog maintenance items that fall within a Trust’s Capital funding category.

Alternatively, recently appointed Capital Projects Managers involved in the delivery of an NHS Trust Capital Programme.

Aims & objectives

To enable Estates and Capital Projects staff to manage Capital schemes to time and budget within a formal structure that complies with Trust standing financial instructions (SFIs) and standing financial orders (SFOs).

To provide individuals with an overview of the Capital Programme process and in particular their role in delivering successful capital schemes.

BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

– Define the term “capital” within an NHS context

– Outline a typical capital planning process

– Describe elements contained with a procedural framework

– Explain the design process

– State the tendering requirements laid out in trusts standing financial instructions (SFIs) and standing financial orders (SFOs)

– Describe procedures for project control and monitoring

– Outline the requirements for technical commissioning, handover and post project completion

– Prepare contract documentation suitable for carrying out minor projects

Other information

This 2 day course is an introduction to managing minor capital schemes. It is intended to give the student a clear framework for the successful management of projects and provides a foundation for future more in depth studies.
