This is a key element of training for those wishing to progress to an Authorising Engineer role in the more specialised environment of healthcare engineering.

Who is the course for
This course can count towards the registration requirements to become an Authorising Engineer (AE) with the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM).
Aims & objectives
- Explain the rules of associated regulatory bodies such as HSE and CQC.
- Identify the roles, duties and responsibilities of the Authorising Engineer, Authorised, Responsible and Competent Persons in accordance with NHS guidance.
- Describe how the role of the Authorising Engineer can have a positive impact on the safety of the organisation.
- Identify where competence is required within specific engineering disciplines and how this can be assessed and monitored.
- Describe how an Authorising Engineer can provide a mentoring role within a specific engineering discipline.
- Identify the need for record keeping, typical examples of records to be kept and how the Authorising Engineer would assess the appropriateness of a record keeping system.
- Describe examples of when an Authorising Engineer might conduct an interview and how they would be carried out.
- Identify the principles and procedures for carrying out an audit within a specific engineering discipline.
Explain the role of the Authorising Engineer in carrying out investigations, and identify typical examples of incidents, dangerous occurrences that would require investigation.
