Who is the course for

This course is for non-electrical staff required to work on and around electrical machines and equipment.

Learners must be able to demonstrate adequate knowledge of BS 7671 prior to attending the course.

Aims & objectives

To enable learners to diagnose simple electrical faults, understand the possible causes and carry out necessary isolations and repairs.

To provide an awareness of the hazards and dangers associated with electrical equipment and machines and demonstrate safe methods of work accordingly.

 

BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

– Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of electricity

– State the dangers of electricity

– Describe fundamental requirements for protection against electric shock

– Follow the correct procedure for safe isolation and working safely

– Correctly connect/disconnect electrical equipment

For Authorised Persons (Electrical LV), HTM 06-02 recommends retraining every 3 years.

For Authorised Persons (Electrical HV) in healthcare, HTM 06-03 recommends retraining every 3 years, with the same recommendation for those working in the commercial sector.

Yes and no. You do need to be working in a healthcare environment, but we do offer a mechanical to electrical conversion course for non-electrical staff who will be required to work on and around electrical machines and equipment.

On completion of the course delegates will be able to diagnose simple electrical faults and have an understanding of the possible causes and carry out necessary isolations and repairs, whilst understanding their limitations and hazards associated with the electrical systems and machines.
