To enable estates staff to gain an understanding of the importance of managing asbestos related risks, roles and responsibility and the use of important techniques such as development of an adequate asbestos management plan, audit and appropriate training and communication.

Who is the course for

You will be working in or on behalf of a healthcare estates department with or soon to take on responsibility for the safe management of asbestos.  This course is based on the HSE asbestos training module and will take you through the key roles and responsibilities and principle actions.

Aims & objectives

To enable estates staff to gain an understanding of the importance of managing asbestos related risks, roles and responsibility and the use of important techniques such as development of an adequate asbestos management plan, audit and appropriate training and communication.  The course will explain your roles and responsibilities, take you through the key actions and explore the concept of a suitable and sufficient approach to asbestos management.

 

BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

– discuss the hazards associated with working with or near asbestos containing materials (ACMs), including the effect on health

– understand the legal requirements including the duty to manage asbestos

– apply a plan to work through the logical steps to comply with legislation

– develop an appropriate asbestos management plan using practical examples

– identify where to obtain further guidance and assistance.

Assessment

Your ability to meet the above course objectives will be determined through a range of appropriate informal assessment techniques. This approach will assist you with identifying any areas of improvement for your own CPD action plan.

Appropriate and regular refresher training is a requirement for all those with roles and responsibilities in respect of water distribution systems and associated equipment in healthcare buildings ensuring patient and staff safety in respect of the microbiological, chemical and physical risks associated with water systems.

ACoP L8 and HSG 274 states the Responsible Person (Water) should receive ‘regular refresher training’, this is generally accepted as being appropriate every two to three years.
