Who is the course for

This course is aimed at personnel involved in operating transportable, (benchtop), steam sterilizers. These may include Operating Department Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Nurses, Dental Nurses, Sterile Services Technicians, and any other person who are responsible for the decontamination of reusable medical devices.

Aims & objectives

To enable clinical & allied healthcare professionals working in local decontamination facilities or sterile services departments to operate transportable steam sterilizers as defined in British Standards and devolved National Health Service, (NHS), guidance.

BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

– Describe the complete reusable medical device decontamination process

– Describe key decontamination roles and responsibilities

– Explain the principles of operation of a benchtop sterilizers

– Explain the reasons for correct usage and loading of decontamination equipment

– Describe and list daily and weekly testing for transportable steam sterilizers

– Carry out daily & weekly testing

– Complete & define the importance of log books for steam sterilizers

– Operate benchtop steam sterilizers

Additional information

Practical exercises form an important part of this course, enabling delegates to achieve the training objectives. If delivered on-site the client must ensure that sterilizer equipment is made available and provide a permit to work in support of training.
