Congratulations from Eastwood Park to two individuals who have successfully completed the Authorising Engineers (Decontamination) framework to become registered AE(D)s.
James Tinsdeall and Dermot Smyth completed the framework, which is managed by Eastwood Park and has been developed and is assessed by the Institute of Healthcare Engineering & Estates Management (IHEEM).
It takes approximately 2 years to complete the framework, with James and Dermot first having undergone an initial assessment to discuss the process and set out key modules which include a range of management and decontamination specific topics. They then set out their individual development plans with the Eastwood Park team, which worked to identify existing knowledge and next steps to take to achieve AE(D) registration, for example additional training. After building up a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competency, James and Dermot attended a final assessment which culminated with a formal interview with an IHEEM panel.
Jim commented that he
“would thoroughly recommend anyone with the skills and experience pursuing and attaining Authorizing Engineer Status in whichever discipline through the IHEEM technical platforms in conjunction with Eastwood Park.
“The need for registered Authorizing Engineers is only going to increase to give organizations assurance in providing safe healthcare environments and facilities. The structured framework ensures all aspects required are covered. To complete the process requires a lot of hard work and determination.”
On his appointment, Dermot said
“I'm very grateful to the registration board and the AE(D)s that volunteered years of their time to build a new, robust and thorough AE(D) competency framework, as well as the staff at IHEEM and Eastwood Park Ltd who contributed greatly. A special thank you to Bob Kingston for being my mentor.”
Meanwhile, we look forward to welcoming James, who delivers our Authorised person (decontamination) - role & responsibilities (to NHS guidance) back to Eastwood Park in the near future with his newly earned status.
