2019 healthcare engineering apprentice summer school - an eye-opening experience

Apprentices doing electrical testing

This August, healthcare engineers from across the UK participated in Eastwood Park’s 2019 apprentice summer school.

This specialist programme gave apprentices and those new to the industry an in-depth and enjoyable time learning about a range of aspects relating to healthcare engineering. The programme links HTM compliance through a range of theory and practical learning, taking place in excellent facilities such as an operating theatre, decontamination lab, plant room and air conditioning lab.

One learner commented:

“Decontamination was especially eye-opening, there is far more industry knowledge to learn, and the way it applies to my day-to-day job is really interesting. I am pleased to have more context into more areas of healthcare engineering”

The 16 apprentices stayed at Eastwood Park and were invited to take part in fun evening activities such as clay pigeon shooting, quizzes and a barbecue...despite the great British weather! They were also among some of the first to try out Eastwood Park's refreshed facilities, including a new games room and plated dining service in the restaurant, which received great feedback.

Overall, the group agreed in their majority that the all-round knowledge will be extremely beneficial to them in the workplace, and they are even more interested in personal development following this opportunity.
