A closer look at our Foundation degree medical equipment technologies - starting October 2019

So you work in biomedical engineering and want to do something that will help you take the next step in your career, but not sure where to start?

There are a whole host of engineering qualifications out there but it can be difficult to find one directly relevant to your workplace. And that’s where Eastwood Park’s Foundation degree medical equipment technologies comes in, with enrolments taking place now for an October 2019 start.

Written specifically for the healthcare sector, this two-year degree (alongside a Foundation degree hospital engineering) is ideal for staff who don’t want to give up their job to study full-time, with study taking place primarily in the workplace and online. And unlike others on the market, it is a fully fledged degree rather than an ‘equivalent’ programme, awarded in partnership with the industry focused Staffordshire University.

You’ll study a mixture of core and specific modules relating directly to the medical equipment industry, which include biomedical instrumentation, anaesthetic & theatre equipment, patient monitoring, laboratory equipment & foetal monitoring equipment, engineering science and more.

Study can be flexible around your day to day commitments - you’ll have access to our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), so as long as you have a device that can connect to the internet, you can study at a time and place that suits you. This is something that our current hospital engineering foundation degree student Alison Edmundson, Head of FM Governance and Performance for Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has found invaluable

"I am a full time working mum of two young children and it is manageable with good time management and discipline.

“I was daunted by the engineering science as it has been a while since I touched mathematics but it does come back and you are fully supported by great tutors and resources.”

Our tutors are experts in their own specialisms – they don’t work in academic university departments but rather are still active in the industry and this constant contact with the ‘real-world’ means that the degree stays aligned with current best practice and examples. Eastwood Park also has a dedicated higher education team who are on hand for any further support you may need.

If after two years you wish to continue studying, there is the option to progress onto Eastwood Park’s BSc (Hons) management of healthcare engineering technologies & facilities, or for applicants with the relevant experience and previous qualifications, direct entry onto the BSc may be possible.

The next intake for the Foundation degree medical equipment technologies and BSc is October 2019. Last year Eastwood Park saw its largest intake yet, so ensure you register interest in good time to guarantee yourself a place.

It’s worth noting that if you or your team are working in a hospital engineering or estates role, Eastwood Park also offers a Foundation degree hospital engineering, also starting October 2019.
