2018 Hospital engineering apprentice summer school a success

Earlier this month, apprentices from around the UK and even as far as the Middle East completed Eastwood Park’s dedicated summer school for healthcare engineers.

This specialist programme links HTM compliance and engineering through a mixture of theory and practical learning. Making use of Eastwood Park’s excellent facilities, including an operating theatre, decontamination lab, plant room and air conditioning lab, apprentices took part in sessions on everything from decontamination and sterilization equipment to electrical installations in medical locations, away from the stresses of a ‘live’ hospital site.

It wasn’t all work through - there were also a number of fun and social evening sessions for relaxation and networking including clay pigeon shooting and a barbecue.

Upon leaving Eastwood Park at the end of the week, Peter Thomas from Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said how he felt “when I go back to work I will have much better understanding of the equipment and will be much more effective problem solving”. Thomas Ramsay of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde commented what an “interesting place to learn” Eastwood Park is.

Following this summer’s success, dates are being planned for 2019. To ensure your place you can register to be notified first when the dates are published – call +44 (0)1454 262777 or email us.
