Claire Hennessy has been one of our most frequent delegates at Eastwood Park throughout her career visiting our training centre at each stage of her development. Today, in her role as Head of Operational Estates & Facilities Services at the busy Oxford University Hospitals NHS FT (OUH), with responsibility for the training of others, she sends many of her team to what she considers to be a first choice training provider – Eastwood Park.
First visiting us in 1995 as a hospital engineer apprentice, Claire hasn’t looked back: “It was a hugely rewarding experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it and have taken every opportunity to return as I know the training and information will be what I need – and also now what my team needs.”
On leaving school, Claire joined the Royal Navy to train as a weapons/electrical engineer. She then moved to Hammersmith Hospital to take on an electrical apprenticeship and her career then took off, working her way up to her role today as Head of Operational Estates & Facilities Services based at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
“I have always found the teaching to be very interactive and delivered in a manner that is very engaging. This is so important with the kind of information we need to take on board.” says Claire.
Claire’s training has involved all the Authorised Persons courses for HV, LV, Lifts, Ventilation, MGPS and Water as well as a number of specialist estates management courses.
“All the trainers have a way of putting across information that is easy to understand and remember, making it especially straightforward for those of us who like me were new to a number of these subjects.”
For these reasons Claire also entrusts the training of her team to us:
“I know that I can trust Eastwood Park to provide my team members with sound practical knowledge and skills that can be applied directly in the workplace. This is so important as the estates support services are vital to patients at a time that is critical in their lives. It’s not an obvious support, not being front line, however, without these services operating effectively, front line staff would not be able to operate to maximum efficiency.
“It’s important that my team understands this. Yes, it is of course about the technical knowledge and know-how, but equally they need to understand the ‘why’ - the team at Eastwood Park provide this. An all rounded training experience.
“Eastwood Park give my team the specific knowledge they need for hospitals. The courses focus on the HTM structure is invaluable. Being able to practise using the equipment in a safe environment is brilliant and for a number of courses unique to Eastwood Park.
“It’s a bonus to stay at the training centre too, as there’s lots more opportunity to network and share ideas, which again enhances the whole experience. I would absolutely recommend Eastwood Park.”
