In amongst everything going on in the news this year, you may have seen the changes and significant challenges universities have been facing as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
During this time, we’ve been waiting for guidance and clear direction on how these changes impact Eastwood Park’s 3 unique healthcare engineering degrees, delivered in partnership with Staffordshire University.
2020 has shone a spotlight on the specialist knowledge required by engineers to install, manage and maintain critical healthcare systems and premises like never before. We have been working hard to ensure that Eastwood Park continues to support the healthcare sector through these important degrees, developed in line with the NHS Estates and FM Workforce Strategy and professional body feedback, to provide a professional qualifications for healthcare engineers that specifically covers the context, technologies, specialist services, patient safety issues and regulations required in hospitals.
After a tumultuous few months, we’ve now been able to confirm the following changes to our next intakes as a result of the latest Government changes regarding the cap on student numbers being lifted, and are looking forward to welcoming degree students back to Eastwood Park soon.
New starting date – April 2021
Our planned October 2020 intake for new applicants will now take place in April 2021. While we know this might come as a disappointment to those who were hoping to start a degree with Eastwood Park this side of Christmas, with everything the healthcare sector has been through this year, we feel this may be for the best for our colleagues who have been working so hard to support the country through the pandemic this year.
A degree is always a significant undertaking and we feel this will be an opportunity for prospective students to regroup and recover before taking this next step in their careers.
Our cycle of intakes will then resume on an annual basis again from October 2021.
Changes to the application process
In addition, all applications now have to be made through UCAS, not directly to Eastwood Park; this is to help universities manage their student and potential student numbers.
While this may be frustrating to those who have already submitted their application directly to Eastwood Park, we’re sure you’ll understand, universities have been facing a constantly changing situation within the last few months and this has impacted all higher education students and potential students.
Eastwood Park’s degree team will then receive all applications directly from UCAS, and it’s still our course leaders who make the decision on accepting an applicant.
Our current degree students, whose studies were paused during the height of the pandemic, will re-start their degrees in September 2020, with the degree study weekends running as planned.
Current students will then complete their studies in February 2021, with an opportunity to continue onto on the next level – either year 2 of a foundation degree or onto the BSc - in the new academic year, in April 2021.
After a challenging year, we are so looking forward to welcoming our current students back to Eastwood Park for the autumn study weekend. We are also pleased to be welcoming applications for new students looking to join our April 2021 intake.
