In recent weeks there have been a number of updates to the Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs); key guidance documents giving comprehensive advice and guidance on the design, installation and operation of specialised building and engineering technology used in the delivery of healthcare. These recent updates highlight how guidance and standards constantly evolve and change, and therefore how skills and training doesn’t stay current forever.
HTM 01-01: Decontamination of surgical instruments
Changes have been made based on the ACDP-TSE subgroup’s guidance, the views of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons and to align with UK devolved administrations. Consequently, CFPP 01-01 has reverted to the Health Technical Memorandum title format and now becomes Health Technical Memorandum 01-01.
HTM 01-06: Management and decontamination of flexible endoscopes
HTM has been updated to reflect revised guidance from the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens' Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy subgroup, and to ensure alignment with UK devolved administrations.
HTM 08-02: Lifts
The HTM 08-02 has been updated to reflect major changes to European Directives, UK Acts and Regulations and the BS EN 81 suite of standards.
HTM 04-01: Safe water in healthcare premises
The HTM 04-01 has been revised into 3 sections, as follows:
Part A – covers the design, installation and commissioning
Part B – covers operational management
Part C – covers specific additional measures that should be taken to control and minimise the risk of Pseudomonas aerugiosa in augmented care units.
At Eastwood Park we continuously review our training and consider the implications of any changes to ensure we support our learners and clients with the latest guidelines and regulations.
