Case Study | Qatar (English)
Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar
Eastwood Park was asked to assist the Hamad Corporation in Qatar with its requirement to establish engineering systems and appoint and develop staff in accordance with International Standards and Codes of Practice in all seven of its hospitals.
- Eastwood Park started by adapting UK hospital codes of practice (HTMs) and a structured approach to maintenance and testing (PPM, CoPs and new ways of working) in all 8 hospitals.
- The systems developed identified clear responsibilities and the required competencies for the maintenance, management and quality assurance of engineering and facility systems, plant and hospital equipment including: medical gases, electrical, water, lifts, air-conditioning, and steam boilers.
- The roles of Competent Person, Authorised Person and Authorising Engineer were adopted (from EU Approved Codes of Practice) and the competencies for these roles informed the training programmes developed by Eastwood Park.
Early indications show that significant service improvements have occurred and that they are now aligned to the hospital group’s quality systems and the overall international hospital accreditation the Hamad Group are seeking. Eastwood Park has subsequently been asked to undertake additional training and consultancy activity in support of other hospital service areas.
Outcomes
Over 300 staff were appointed, trained and accredited with internationally recognised competency qualifications 900 Nurses trained as Designated Nursing Officers (Medical Gases).
