Is this course for you?

This course is for engineers and apprentices who are new to basic electrical testing and fault finding.

Aim

To enable learners to diagnose simple electrical faults, understand the possible causes and carry out necessary isolations and repairs.

To provide an awareness of the hazards and dangers associated with electrical equipment and machines and demonstrate safe methods of work accordingly.

Objectives

By the end of the course you will be able to:

• Identify and demonstrate safe isolation of circuits
• List fault protection devices
• List the circuit configurations to enable quicker fault location
• Demonstrate the correct use of testing equipment
• Locate and find faults on single and 3 phase motors and starters
• Carry out practical fault finding and evaluate test results
• List the main types of earthing systems and ADS

Classrooms

Classrooms are available for theory learning and group exercises (close to training laboratories when practice activities are included).

LV facility

Our electrical training facilities include a dedicated training room for low voltage courses.

• How long will you hold provisional bookings for?

  Provisional bookings will be held for one week (7 days) from the date of booking.

  As we are facing a high demand for course places, we kindly ask you to confirm your place as soon as possible.

  If you do not confirm this booking within this period, unfortunately we cannot hold the place for you and the provisional booking request will be removed from the system.

• Do you have to be working as an electrician on your electrical courses?

  Yes and no. You do need to be working in a healthcare environment, but we do offer a Mechanical to electrical conversion course for non-electrical staff who will be required to work on and around electrical machines and equipment.

  On completion of the course delegates will be able to diagnose simple electrical faults and have an understanding of the possible causes and carry out necessary isolations and repairs, whilst understanding their limitations and hazards associated with the electrical systems and machines.

• Will I need any refresher training?

  For Authorised Persons (Electrical LV), HTM 06-02 recommends retraining every 3 years.

  For Authorised Persons (Electrical HV) in healthcare, HTM 06-03 recommends retraining every 3 years, with the same recommendation for those working in the commercial sector.
