This course is aimed at National Health Service staff or contractors required to perform the duties of a Competent Person (Decontamination) (CP(D)) as defined in guidance.


To provide delegates with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out the recommended quarterly testing procedures of endoscope washer disinfectors in accordance with standards and NHS guidance.


 By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Describe roles and responsibilities relating to the decontamination of endoscopes.
  • Describe the construction, care, handling and use of flexible endoscopes used in medical practice.
  • Calibrate and use specified test equipment.
  • Demonstrate quarterly testing methodology.
  • Complete test records and correctly interpret the results.

Prerequisite to attending the course

Candidates wishing to attend this course should have a thorough understanding of thermometric testing. This is taught on our course WTM1 - Washer-disinfectors - periodic testing (to NHS guidance).

Related courses

On completion of this course the delegate will have gained the knowledge, skills and certification necessary to carry out periodic testing on endoscope washer disinfectors to quarterly level. The successful completion of this course is a prerequisite for attending WTM3 - Automated endoscope reprocessors - annual testing (to NHS guidance)
