Eastwood Park’s 2017-18 training dates now available
We have medical gas courses to suit the various healthcare roles that come into contact with medical gases including: Competent and Authorised Persons, Quality Controllers, Nurses, Porters and Designated Nursing Officers.
These courses include a mix of theory and practical elements applicable to specific roles.
The current HTM 02-01 brings together all the relevant ACOP’s, and other related guidance e.g. BCGA (British compressed gas association) into one document.
By following the HTM recommendations, organisations can meet the requirements of the law.
HTM 02-01 for medical gas pipeline systems is in two parts. Part A covers the design, installation and commissioning of an MGPS and Part B covers the operational management.

Medical Gases trainers
As medical gas portfolio manager, Michael Ell leads and develops medical gas training at Eastwood Park, the only “live” training MGPS site in the UK.
Formerly a marine engineer, hospital engineer, an Estates Manager in a 750-bed general hospital and a medical gas risk specialist and trainer, he has over 25 years’ hospital engineering experience.
Michael offers in-depth knowledge of the role of a medical gas AP, as well as the management of medical gases on a range of sites. His course delivery encourages as much interactivity and practical elements as possible.
Paul Wilkings, a chartered mechanical engineer, was a senior engineer in the NHS for 31 years.
During this time he became the Authorising Engineer (AE) for medical gases for Wales and was also a member of the medical gas committee responsible for the appointment and registration under IHEEM, of medical gas AE’s within the UK.
He became a fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) and a fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (FIHEEM).
Water Hygiene and Estates & Facilities Management
With approaching 30 years experience in all aspects of water safety and hygiene and estates management in the healthcare sector, Mervyn has led the development of Eastwood Park's new portfolio of water courses for both healthcare and non-healthcare organisations.
Having recently left the NHS, as well as delivering training at Eastwood Park, he works with private and NHS organisations providing expert consultancy services as an Authorising Engineer (Water) plus other services and bespoke training.
He is a Fellow of IHEEM as well as a member of IHEEM's Authorising Engineers (Water) register; a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and Member of the Water Management Society.
