Bruce Garbutt
Decontamination and mechanical
Bruce manages Eastwood Park’s decontamination and pressure systems portfolios, as well undertaking the role of course leader for the Foundation degree in hospital engineering.
Having managed people and operations under extreme circumstances within the armed forces, Bruce is adept at responding to our delegates' training needs, backed by an extensive technical knowledge.
Prior to Eastwood Park, Bruce enjoyed a 30 year career in defence aerospace engineering, with experience in frontline maintenance, quality assurance, design and development, technical authoring and co-ordination of high value projects.

Sylvia Martin
Decontamination
Sylvia Martin’s career spans over 30 years, playing a central role in developing and delivering Eastwood Park’s Decontamination Lead course.
As a highly experienced Decontamination and Sterile Services Manager, Sylvia brings extensive knowledge to her training, encompassing: project management for developing business cases; the design and build of decontamination facilities; and management of full decontamination services including endoscopy and medical equipment.

Terry Easy
Decontamination
Terry Easy has been employed in the decontamination sector for approaching 40 years and is an Authorising Engineer in Decontamination.
He began as a Service Engineer, moving on to become a regional Sterilizer Engineer and then joining the British Sterilizer Company as Service Director.

Mark Walker
Decontamination
Mark Walker is an experienced medical device decontamination professional and Authorising Engineer (Decontamination). He has several years' experience managing a sterile services department servicing two major London hospitals, as well as experience in auditing to ISO 13485, endoscopy and sterile service departments.
Mark leads our CSSD teaching delivery to sterile service technicians at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Saudi Arabia and is one of our decontamination & infection control trainers.

James Tinsdeall
Decontamination
James Tinsdeall is an Authorised Person (Decontamination) and is delivering our AP (D) training.
He contributes knowledge as a Head of Estates within the NHS for 20 years, and overall NHS experience of 30 years. Having recently completed the AED competency framework and consequently added to the AE(D) register. James is now running a limited company providing AE(D) services and consultancy to healthcare organisations in the UK and EU.
James is also an Authorised Person (Medical Gas) and Responsible Person (Water).

Andrew Birch
Decontamination
Andrew is a practising validation engineer in both the healthcare sector and the pharmaceutical industry with 30 years’ experience, Andrew is also AE(D) for a number of English NHS trusts and as such has experience in auditing and provision of advice on all aspects of decontamination.
Andrew also has experience in Quality Management Systems and compilation of validation protocols to pharmaceutical standards. He is also an Authorizing Engineer (Decontamination) and member of IHEEM.

John Prendergast
John is a Senior Decontamination Engineer and Authorising Engineer (Decontamination), with over 30 years’ experience working within NHS Wales. He leads the team that that provides validation services, advice and technical guidance to Health Boards and Trusts within Wales, working closely with Welsh governmental departments to deliver policy and strategy in the unique and often complex field of medical device decontamination.
John is an active member of the IHEEM Welsh Branch and he represents Wales on the IHEEM AE(D) Registration Panel. Additionally, he has been a member of the IHEEM Professional Development Committee. In 2011 he was elected onto the Central Sterilizing Club, where he currently serves as Treasurer.

Michael Ell
Medical Gases
As medical gas portfolio manager, Michael Ell leads and develops medical gas training at Eastwood Park, the only “live” training MGPS site in the UK.
Formerly a marine engineer, hospital engineer, an Estates Manager in a 750-bed general hospital and a medical gas risk specialist and trainer, he has over 30 years’ hospital engineering experience.
Michael offers in-depth knowledge of the role of a medical gas AP, as well as the management of medical gases on a range of sites. His course delivery encourages as much interactivity and practical elements as possible.

Mark Williams
Mark is an experienced Authorised Person (MGPS), having worked for both NHS Trusts and private organisations delivering AP and auditing services for a number of years.
He brings with him a wealth of experience in support of Eastwood Park’s medical gas training portfolio, including on the design, installation, surveying and ongoing maintenance of medical gas pipeline systems. This will be particularly relevant to the delivery of practical learning exercises in Eastwood Park’s ‘live’ medical gas facility.

Dr Scott Brown
Medical Equipment
Scott has over 30 years’ in the clinical engineering sector. A registered Clinical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council, he has a PhD in medical device risk management and a background in engineering and science. He is currently an EBME manager with Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and Managing Director/Lead Consultant for Health Tech Solutions Ltd.
A Chartered Engineer and Chartered Scientist he has extensive experience of medical engineering, risk management, assurance, governance and project management.
He has served on numerous IPEM committees including Council, EGB (Engineering Group Board) and CESIG (Clinical Engineering Special Interest Group), contributing author to 4 books in clinical engineering. As well as many significant publications he also brings a new dimension to our training.

Stephen Torrington
Stephen has over 30 years’ experience in the lift industry, having progressed from his early years as a lift engineer through a number of senior roles during a varied career leading a number of large organisations.

Following a career spanning 39 years in training, design, assessment and management for building engineering services, Andrew now specialises in lift training.

Ken Gorman
Lifts and Medical Gases
Ken Gorman has 33 years hospital experience within the NHS and in hospitals abroad, including the Middle East and Africa.
He has an MSc in Engineering Management as well as a NEBOSH diploma, and is a member of IHEEM.
His estates and facilities experience has given him an insight into the requirements and challenges of hospital engineering.

Richard Knight
Heating & Ventilation
Richard Knight is a highly knowledgeable specialist in healthcare ventilation with over 30 years’ experience in healthcare estates management, mostly from within Trust.
Richard is well placed to deliver Eastwood Park’s HVAC training, as a member of the CEN TC 156 committee writing the new European healthcare ventilation standard.
He is also an Authorising Engineer and a founding member and chair of the CIBSE HVAC healthcare group South West.

Richard Harris
Heating & Ventilation
With several years as a British Merchant Navy Engineering Officer, followed by senior engineering roles in M & E and hospital estates management, Richard Harris has been a part of our highly experienced HVAC team for a number of years.
Richard is an Authorising Engineer in Ventilation/Water and Pressure Systems, as well as an independent advisor for Water Hygiene and currently runs his own building services consultancy. He is a Member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and Institute of Marine Engineers, Scientists and Technicians. He is also a Chartered Engineer (C Eng) & a Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estates Management.

Mervyn Phipps
Water Hygiene, Medical Gases and Estates & Facilities Management
With over 30 years experience in all aspects of water safety & hygiene and estates management in the healthcare sector, Mervyn has led the development of Eastwood Park's new portfolio of water courses for both healthcare and non-healthcare organisations.
Following a successful career in the NHS, he set up his own consultancy company, Synergistic Solutions Consultancy Ltd. providing NHS and private healthcare organisations with expert consultancy services as an Authorising Engineer (Water) and bespoke training. He also delivers training at Eastwood Park Training.
He is a Fellow of IHEEM as well as a member of IHEEM's Authorising Engineers (Water) register and chair of the water technical platform; a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute; Member of the Water Management Society and the Royal Society for Public Health. His working experience in the healthcare sector enables him to offer his skills in water safety and the wider estate management fields.

Alan Hambidge
Water Hygiene and Health & Safety
Alan Hambidge has almost 30 years’ experience in the field of health and safety risk management and is a leading expert in Legionellosis and water hygiene.
He is lead trainer on Eastwood Park’s health and safety portfolio, as well as developing and delivering the current portfolio of water hygiene training courses.
Alan is an IA / AE on water and health and safety, and is an active member of various organisations and institutes such as IHEEM, HefmA and IFHE. He is also a three times winner of the IHEEM John Bolton Memorial Prize and runs his own company, Empathy Environmental Consultancy. He runs the on-line "Safety Solutions" web site resource, and has published hundreds of articles and a health and safety book.

Mike Quest
Water Hygiene
With over 25 years in the water industry, Mike brings vast experience and in-depth knowledge to our water hygiene courses. Mike founded his own company in 2005, providing Legionella services to a wide range of sectors including healthcare and housing. Mike became an independent consultant in 2014, spending his time training, auditing and supporting a number of NHS organisations as an Authorising Engineer.
His recent experience includes 5 years as a committee member of the Legionella Control Association and he is now one of their Company Auditors, working with member organisations to ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct and raising standards across the industry. He is also a Senior Member of the Water Management Society and a Member of IHEEM, and has given technical papers at numerous events across the UK.
Mike’s qualifications include a HND in Engineering and an honours degree in Water Management; he is a Chartered Environmentalist and an Incorporated Engineer, and believes that higher standards of competence are founded on the provision of high quality training and self-driven professional development.

Paul Beech
Fire Safety
Paul Beech has considerable experience in fire safety covering a long career in the fire service.
He shares his expertise by giving fire training at Eastwood Park. His fire safety consultancy supports a number of NHS Trusts in the capacity of Fire Safety Advisor.
With detailed knowledge of the codes of practice (HTMs), Paul is able to use his practical experience to support the provision of effective fire precautions in healthcare premises.

Steve Robinson
Steve joins Eastwood Park’s fire safety training team following a successful career spanning 30 years in the fire service.
He has extensive experience as a fire safety consultant, completing fire risk assessments and advising on fire strategies for existing and proposed buildings (including in healthcare) and has been involved in many complex fire engineered solutions for buildings including three new hospitals.
Steve has been actively engaged in teaching and coaching as a Leading Firefighter, Sub Officer and later Station Manager throughout his fire service career, later becoming a Fire Safety Instructor at the Fire Service College where he mentored students from around the world.

Kevin Furey
Electrical
Kevin has over 30 years’ experience working in electrical engineering and is currently leading the development of Eastwood Park’s brand new high voltage training facility.
His wealth of experience as an Authorising Engineer, senior engineering and training consultant both in the UK and internationally greatly supports our future electrical training provision. Kevin is a member of IHEEM, IET and the Engineering Council.

Peter Handforth
Electrical
Peter Handforth trained as an electrician within the NHS. He has considerable experience as a design engineer and a passion for the delivery of quality training.
Peter delivers the electrical training courses at Eastwood Park. He is an Authorising Engineer for several hospitals and runs his own consultancy specialising in healthcare electrical installations.

Brian Garthwaite
Brian has over 40 years’ experience in electrical engineering, mainly in the industrial and commercial sectors, ranging from electrical installation to testing and maintenance.
As an approved NICEIC contractor (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting), Brian undertook a number of significant projects around installation design and turnkey assignment in the UK and abroad. He became a professional training consultant in 2011 and has since developed and delivered LV electrical and associated accredited and approved courses.

Stephen Lloyd

Stephen Lloyd is leading the development and delivery of Eastwood Park’s estates & facilities management suite of courses.
He has many years’ experience in a number of FM roles in the NHS and operates as an independent estates & facilities management consultant.
Alongside training, Stephen is project coordinator for the building of Eastwood Park’s new training centre.
